Silica, Spike's Mother by DolphinMoana Silica, Spike's Mother by DolphinMoana
I originally wanted to wait until a comic to introduce my interpretations of Spike's parents, but.....it would seem I'm busy with a lot of other projects these days. ^^; C'est la vie. So for now, enjoy my redention of his mother, who I've named Silica. Between her and Spike's father, I've tried to even out the genetics so you can see where Spike gets certain features.

What does the father look like? Well, that's up to you guys if you wish to see him. :lol:

And I assume she DOES have wings. You just can't see them here. ^^;

Silica is a very beautiful dragon, I can see where Spike gets his side spines from, also can see a bit of him in the eyes. Spike's sister also seems to take after her as well :) I always thought Spike was some sort of rare breed of dragon that doesn't have wings, but hey, she's your character.

I can't wait to see her husband/mate, but you take your time; school is important.

Well, who knows, maybe Silica is one of those dragons that can fly without wings. :lol:

Actually, I don't go back to school until January. Or at least September, I have a naturalist's class then.

I always figured that Spike's dragon species is a separate magic-based one.

I mean, Spike's able to manipulate his flames to transport things to Celestia. He experiences abnormally-fast growth when in a hoarding fit. It took a magic surge to finish hatching him.

That said, magic dragons could be the most varied kind in the Equestrian world.

I actually created a theory that dragons do have their own races - like ponies do - but their genetics work like dog genetics and you can have hybrid breeds of dragon. And one breed can definitely be more dominate than others in a hybrid. In this case, I made Tremor (Spike's dad) an Earth Dragon, built for ferocity and combat and winged flight, with a blocky build like that of a Western-lore dragon. No magical abilities, just raw dragon muscle that we've seen from other dragons in the show. His mom Silica, however, is more of a magic/air dragon. Calmer by nature, able to fly without wings because of her magic abilities (think Falkor from Neverending Story). She has a streamlined build more like dragons from Eastern lore.

Spike, in turn, inherited the dogged determination, loyalty, and adult build of an Earth Dragon. But now that you pointed all that out, he probably picked up more from his mother with not only his magical abilities, but his gentler nature. And he may or may not receive wings as he grows, but he has yet to find out if that exactly means whether or not he can fly. :)

Oh I see, throwing us for a loop there, eh? :lol:

So, you're done with SCAD? Or am I misunderstanding?

Maaaaybe. :D

No, I'm not done with it quite yet. :lol: I took some time off to come home and try towards a second major. Then I realized I didn't have the funds for TWO of them. ^^; So I'm going back to SCAD in January. And I'll start working on my senior film. :D
