26 - Healing the Years by DolphinMoana 26 - Healing the Years by DolphinMoana
100 theme challenge #26 - "Stars"

SPOILERS FOR ORIGINS!! If you haven't read it and don't want to be spoiled, JUST LOOK AT THE PRETTY PICTURE. :noes:

YEEEES. :D So glad I finally got this one up. Between having to fill out a sketchbook for class and having to play with background painting for my 2D production class, I actually managed to do this! :giggle: I am proud to say that I made that sky and background all by myself. Got some help from a sky tutorial by :iconremy-cake:, though.

So this is a scene in about Chapter 13 or so, when Po and Izotaskeshi have a momentary cease-fire, and Po learns all about Izo's backstory.

I have to say, numerous times during the making of this picture, I had "If Everyone Cared" by Nickelback either playing on YouTube or I was listening to it in my head. You know, that song that AMV makers have used to death? In an odd way, I think it works for the scene. And not even from particularly the character's, like it wouldn't make sense if it came out of their mouths. I think it's more of a narrative of what they both subconsciously long for, to put everything behind them and go back to the way they were.

BTW, just a fun little thing to get a feel for Izo's inner struggle. Cover his unscarred eye and see what kind of face you read. Then do the same to his scarred eye and see what kind of different face he has. :D DO IT.

As I recall, Nickelback has some songs that bother me. :hmm: But I love this one. :D

I know you may have had people ask you this question before, but what does the name "Izotakeshi" mean?

Nah, I love sharing my naming info. XD I love to put a lot of time into giving my characters meaningful names.

Izo - Germanic or Frisian for "ice; iron"
Takeshi - Japanese for "warrior; fierce"

In the story, I write that his name translates to "warrior of iron and ice". :) The Ju-long have recruits from all over the known world at the time, so name origins get mixed and matched.

You're absolutely welcome! I've only seen a little bit of KFP2, but I like Origins more. Heck, I've lost count of how many times I've reread that story! Are you planning on writing another KFP fanfic by any chance?

Dunno yet! Right now my muse is elsewhere, but you never know what will happen once Kung Fu Panda 3 comes around. :D Also, I highly recommend seeing the rest of Kung Fu Panda 2! It definitely took the story where the original didn't.

He makes me think of my OC Sing Sing, Po's aunt in my fanfic. She has a scar over her left eye (from her fight with Wolf Boss) and her outfit's pretty close to this. She's a dragonbond, though, so she doesn't look as old as her niece and nephew.

Dragonbond? :?

And nephew AND niece? So Po has a sister in your story? :)

Sometimes the dragons will come across a dying mortal and decide to bond with them. In Sing Sing's case, her uncle brought her to the dragons. Aurea, or Re, as the other dragons refer to her, gave Sing Sing a transfusion of her own blood. Dragon bonds live longer, heal faster, and age slower than normal mortals. Sing Sing and her family are descended from dragons as well, so the effect is more pronounced in her.

Mu Mu is Po's twin sister. Her parents had to give her up because she doesn't have a full set of markings, and it bothered the other villagers enough that Chang begrudgingly asked Sing Sing to raise her. It was when Sing Sing and some of her students were heading out of the village that Shen attacked. Here's a pic by Purpleground02 of what Mu Mu sorta looks like.[link] Purple misunderstood my explanation of her clothes.

I can imagine this being in the third film with Po and his dad!
